This superior quality tea comes from one of the numerous tea plantations around Darjeeling. Due to its fine quality and flavor, this tea has a worldwide reputation of excellence. It is the most expensive and exotically flavoured black tea there is. Darjeeling Tea has a typical, unique flavor that cannot be replicated. It comes from Darjeeling in West Bengal, India. Connoisseurs will assert that without Darjeeling, "tea would be like wine without the prestige of champagne." The tea is grown at the elevation of 750 - 2000 meter in old tea gardens. It can take over 10 years before the leaves are ready to be plucked. The taste of Darjeeling varies with the seasons. The first flush produces astringent flavoury teas and the second flush produces a more mature and lasting flavour. Darjeeling tea has traditionally been prized above all other black teas, especially in the UK and the countries comprising the former British Empire. When properly brewed it yields a thin-bodied, light-colored liquor with a floral aroma a tinge of astringent tannic characteristics, and a musky spiciness often referred to by tea connoisseurs as "muscatel." A sweet cooling aftertaste should be felt on the mouth.
