Camphor Bush leaves have been used for centuries by the Bushmen in perfumes and massage oils. It is also used medicinally. Among the Bushmen Tarchonanthus camphoratus leaves were traditionally known as 'Bushman's Tobacco'. Tarchonanthus camphoratus is native to South Africa, growing into a beautiful, small tree/bush with grey leaves and white flowers. The name tarchonanthus is derived from the Greek word meaning funeral flower. The name camphoratus refers to the strong smell of camphor given off when the leaves are crushed.
