As a Hippie and hash dealer Joseph R. Pietri traveled to Nepal in the seventies, because that´s where the world´s best hashisch was to be found. At the time, cannabis products were still legal and hash was named the actual ´King of Nepal´ . That would change under pressure of the USA…
The bighearted Mr. Nice (Howard Marks) had become hippie-brothers with the writer of this book. He has wrote the most adventurous autobiographic history of hash and weedsmugglers in German literature. He started dealing the widely desired substance as a young boy and cannabis smoker in New York, always looking for the best quality. In 1970 he went to Nepal and became close friends with the buddhist Lama of the holy place Boudhanath, the ´Chine Lama.´ He and his family supported Pietri when smuggling the finest Templeball hash, which was also still legal at the time. It was banned first under pressure of the United States in 1973. What followed was a history of smuggling during more than two decades and throughout multiple countries, until Pietri had been caught and imprisoned in 1992. He was handed over to American command and he went on to writ down his istory. It is catchy and worth reading. Entertaining smokers literature and also a good lesson on recent cannabis culture history. - AZ
