The Protopipe was designed in the USA in the early sixties, and has been popular ever since, due to its compact size, smooth smoke, built in pipe poker and storage. Because of its design, messy gauzes are not necessary. It has a solid brass gauze built in, with a removable bowl that collects oils and tars.
