The philosopher´s stones (psilocybe tampanensis) are also known as truffles.
This kind has a very interesting history. One specimen was found in 1977 in Tampa, Florida. All the cultures which are currently circulating are from this specimen. It has been found only once in the wild after that, in Mississippi, but no culturable material was collected.
One of the biggest differences with other mushrooms is the ability of the philosopher´s stone to form sclerotia beneath the mushroom. This is the part that contains the most psilocybin.
